Post-Surgical Pain

Pain after surgery, or chronic postsurgical pain (CPSP), is an unwanted adverse event in any operation that leads to functional limitations and psychological trauma in patients. Examples include migraine headaches or myofascial pain, which is a condition that causes pressure on sensitive points in the muscles (trigger points).

Common treatments for post-surgical pain include pain medication, physiotherapy, botox injections, pulsed radiofrequency, nerve blocks, nerve ablation, neuromodulation, cognitive behavioral therapy, and lifestyle modifications.

One surgery that often results in pain is wisdom teeth extraction. A study on the efficacy of LLLT on patients with postoperative pain showed a highly significant effect on pain reduction after post-wisdom teeth extraction. Patients had less pain in the surgical sites treated with a laser and an overall reduction of pain. This confirms that LLT is a highly effective treatment for post-surgical pain.
