How low-level laser therapy can help with diabetic neuropathy

People suffering from diabetes may suffer from diabetic neuropathy, a type of nerve damage induced by high blood sugar (glucose) which injures nerves throughout the body. Usually, diabetic neuropathy damages nerves in a diabetic’s legs and feet. Because the condition has no known cure, patients can only be treated with the goal to slow the progression of the disease and relieve pain.

Six separate studies on LLLT and diabetic neuropathy were conducted. These involved measuring different pain scores, analyzing nerve conduction velocity tests, as well as quality of life questionnaires of patients suffering from the condition. The studies concluded that LLLT is effective as a treatment for diabetic neuropathy and that it has a positive effect on controlling diabetic neuropathic pain.
