Dengenerative Disc Disease
Spinal disks are cushions between the bones in the spinal column (the vertebrae) and act as shock absorbers that help individuals move, bend and twist comfortably. Degenerating spinal disks are a normal part of aging. Degenerative disk disease refers to the spinal disks slowly wearing down and involves a damaged disc causing pain ranging from nagging to disabling. It can be caused by the drying out of the disc over time, daily activities, sports, or through injuries.
Several different studies researched the efficacy of LLLT compared to placebo treatment on patients with back pain, including that caused by degenerative disk disease. Based on five studies, LLLT significantly lowers pain in patients with back pain, indicating that it is an effective method for relieving pain in individuals suffering from non-specific low back pain (NSCLBP).
