Sinusitis & Rhinosinusitis

Sinusitis or rhinosinusitis refers to an infection in which the sinus cavities in the cheeks, forehead, and between the eyes become inflamed and swollen. This can result in swelling and pain throughout the face, and difficulty breathing.

Some chronic rhinosinusitis symptoms include nasal congestion, stuffiness, a runny or itchy nose, headache, fatigue, pain, pressure in the face, swelling around the eyes, decreased sense of smell, a sore throat, a dry, persistent cough, and fever. Every year, sinusitis affects more than 30 million people in the United States.

As part of a study, fifteen adult patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) were treated with low-level laser therapy three times a week for a total of ten treatment sessions. All patients reported significant improvement in their symptoms. All in all, the study found that LLLT applied for 4 weeks improves symptoms in patients with CRS.
